Evacuation maps and routes

Life threat: call 911. A hurricane zip-zone map is not the plan for bayou water in the city.

Home / Tools / Evacuation maps and routes

Hurricane zip-zone maps are not an inland flood plan.

Official Zip-Zone / Coastal-A-B-C maps are designed for hurricane storm-surge evacuation. Most Houston inland neighborhoods are NOT in surge zones and are often told to shelter in place for hurricanes unless ordered otherwise (H-GAC; Houston OEM). Inland flooding from extreme rainfall, bayou overflow, reservoir releases, or urban drainage failure is different: there is usually no single 'evacuation route' map. Monitor TranStar high water, FWS gages, local alerts, and move to higher ground if water threatens your home. Do not treat the hurricane route map as the plan for a Memorial Day flood or Tax Day flood-type event.

Zip-zone and routes buttons open the H-GAC 2026 maps. TranStar is live high water and closures. Gauges are bayou levels, not a road list.

Know your zone

Evacuate for a hurricane only if you are in a storm-surge zone and officials order it. Most inland Houston neighborhoods are told to shelter in place unless ordered out. Follow the current order over any map saved on this site.

Turn Around Don't Drown

TxDOT: Flash flooding is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in Texas. Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Six inches of fast-moving water can sweep a vehicle. Never drive around barriers at low water crossings. Penalties up to $2,000 and/or up to 180 days in jail. Source: TxDOT

Energy Corridor / west Houston underpasses (caution, not a route list)

There is no Energy Corridor evacuation route on this page. Underpasses and low spots on Memorial, Eldridge, and Dairy Ashford, and near Addicks and Barker, flood in heavy rain. That is a hazard list, not a way out. Check TranStar for water on the road and the gauges for the bayous. If water covers the pavement, turn around.
