Contractor scam check
Write the name and any license number they gave you. Then search the official desks. We do not live-verify licenses.

No live license API on this page.
A green checkbox here would be a lie. Open TDLR yourself. Match the name, the city, and the license type. For mold, assessor and remediator are often supposed to be separate shops.
Links open the official search. Paste the name there. We cannot mark them “cleared.”
Hard no. Walk back inside.
- Door knocker who “happened to be on your street” with a contract on a tablet
- Full payment in cash before any work, or a fat deposit today or they leave
- No local address, no license number, no proof of insurance you can call
- They want you to skip the claim and “just use our guy for the check”
- Assignment of benefits or a blank work auth you cannot take inside to read
- Out-of-state plates, a different company name on the truck vs the paperwork
- They claim to be FEMA, the city, or your insurer and they want a fee or a gift card
- High-pressure “we only have this crew until tomorrow”
One hard-no is enough. Two is a pattern. Keep the pitch, the plates, and the name. Report on the AG form. If they claimed a Texas license, tell TDLR too.
Ask out loud
- “What is your TDLR or city license number, and can I photograph the insurance certificate?”
- “Please text me the written scope and the moisture-log plan before I sign.”
- “Are you asking me to assign benefits, and can I say no and still get emergency extraction?”
